You will fill an essential role helping Clientl ideate, develop and commercialize innovative integrated lighting products combining decorative elements in automotive interiors and exteriors with electromechanical and/or electronic functional components to enable style, design customization and functionality. You will work with customers and internal business functions including Marketing, Business Development and Commercial Sales to successfully commercialize new products and/or processes.

This is an entrepreneurial, creative, hands-on position that requires strong electrical, design and engineering skills. The ability to work efficiently as a key member of a multidisciplinary team on several projects at once is essential. As an innovation engineer, you will be the technical lead on at least one innovation platform in addition to supporting other innovation projects as time and your expertise allows.
* Conceptualizing, developing and commercializing novel products that solve customer needs
* Spearheading integration of lighting components for opportunities on our products roadmap
* Leading research activities specific to lighting integration
* Serving as the lighting subject matter expert within the organization
* Participating in new idea generation to help grow company technology portfolio
* Interacting with customers and internal teams to discover and define application opportunities
* Understanding and applying Clientl technologies and adjacent competencies to create new product opportunities
* Driving concept scale-up from bench prototype to commercially available product
* Generating detailed concept proposals and development plans
* Designing, prototyping, testing, and transitioning to manufacture functional elements and components that enable mass-production
* Recommending plans for implementation of new developments in engineering, design and lighting technology
* Coordinating external development activities with universities, institutes, laboratories, customers, and suppliers
* Coordinating development activities with the commercial, business development, design, engineering, and manufacturing functions within the organization
* Developing technology transfer packages to support mass production scale-up

* Deep understanding of electrical and electronics design principles and theory, especially as it relates to automotive applications in lighting
* Expert-level knowledge of innovation commercialization processes
* Understanding of basic cost model creation and the drivers of profitability, specifically contribution margin and return on investment

* Experience identifying and integrating lighting technologies into existing product platforms
* Experience and working knowledge of automotive D-FMEA, P-FMEA and APQP processes
* Experience identifying and solving practical problems, defining a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standards may exist
* Experience leading lighting projects to completion on budget and on schedule

* Engineering Degree in Electronics, Optoelectronics, Electrical or related field. Advanced Degree preferred
* 3-5 years of lighting design and electronics experience, automotive industry preferred
* Demonstrated planning skills and experience in an innovation role
* Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, ability to make decisions and take action under pressure
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, an ability to interact with all levels and functions of customers including styling, engineering and purchasing
